Winmau celebrates 70th anniversary

Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. A 70th anniversary is traditionally marked by something in platinum, but for Winmau, tungsten and sisal would be more appropriate! The darts giant is giving one lucky darts fan the opportunity to win a one-off Blade 4 Dual Core dartboard plus a set of 90% tungsten Diamond darts and a laser etched case. All three products will carry the Winmau 70th anniversary logo and the name of the winner, and only one will be produced of each!

To enter the competition, please visit the Winmau Twitter page (@Winmau) or Facebook page (winmaudarts) before 12pm UK time on 22nd April 2016.

Winmau is a company steeped in history, and the beginnings of the most pioneering company in darts started in 1946 when Harry Kicks used his demob money to set up a business in London’s bomb-damaged East End manufacturing elm dartboards called Kicks Bros (the company was renamed Winmau - an amalgamation of the first three letters of Harry’s wife’s first two names, WINifred MAUd - in the mid-1970s). Back then, his father painted the colours and numbers by hand, and Harry’s first customer was the Watney Brewery.

In the 1960s, the company moved into the production of bristle dartboards which carried the name Winmau. Ever since, Winmau has been at the forefront of darts innovation and is respected the world over for its attention to detail and unrivalled product quality. Winmau’s development of the dartboard typifies the company’s drive to push boundaries. Winmau dartboards have been the official equipment of choice for the British Darts Organisation (BDO) since 1973 and are used exclusively in more than 800 BDO events each year, including the Lakeside World Championships and the world’s oldest major darts tournament - the Winmau World Masters. The launch of the Blade model in 1997 was a pivotal moment and changed the face of dartboard manufacturing forever. The current version, the Blade 4 Dual Core, is the fifth phase of innovation and has set the standard as the sport’s most advanced and durable dartboard.

Today, based in Bridgend, South Wales, the company, is not only the world’s leading and most televised darts brand, but also the largest manufacturer of premium bristle dartboards and military grade tungsten darts.

"Winmau is simply the biggest brand in
darts, and they have a reputation for quality that is second-to-none”

BDO Chairperson Sue Williams said: "Winmau is simply the biggest brand in darts, and they have a reputation for quality that is second-to-none. They truly are the force behind the sport. Our relationship with and endorsement of Winmau has endured for more than forty years because we share a common vision of encouraging and supporting darts at all levels from grass roots to the professionals. Winmau have been a key supporter of youth, ladies and disability darts, and no other company has their passion and drive to continue to offer players across the board the opportunities to compete at the highest level.”

Although the Winmau name is synonymous with the best dartboards in the world, the company today provides a full range of premium quality products that span the entire spectrum of the game and are exported to more than 100 countries. Its military grade tungsten darts, including the iconic Stratos Dual Core and Diamond models, are used by millions of amateur and professional players across the globe.

Today the company sponsors an international stable of more than 40 professional players (including current World Champions Scott Waites and Trina Gulliver) and their players hold 20 World Championship titles between them. Established in 1974, the Winmau World Masters is the oldest major tournament in the worldwide game and is unique in its ability to offer men, women, youth and disabled players a global platform to showcase their talents.

In addition to its 40 plus year relationship with the BDO, Winmau has developed partnerships with most major leading darts organisations globally, and the company has helped champion the sport through its support of the World Disability Darts Association, the British Disability Darts Association, the Junior Darts Corporation, the Ladies Darts Organisation and the Webcam Darts Association.

"Darts has become a worldwide phenomenon and we are proud that, with 70 years of heritage, we have been a major part of that history,”

"Darts has become a worldwide phenomenon and we are proud that, with 70 years of heritage, we have been a major part of that history,” says Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack. "Our longevity is based on a foundation of revolutionary thinking and an unrivalled passion for the game. We have had so many new and exciting products, ideas and concepts over the years, and it is this pursuit of always striving to find even the smallest advantage to help players improve their game that keeps us pushing forward. The landscape has changed massively over the course of 70 years, and we are proud to be at the pinnacle of the current digital age with initiatives such as Winmau TV. Who knows where darts will be in another 70 years, but we’ll be doing our best to continue being at its forefront."

Winmau Increase their Tournament Coverage in the USA

Winmau, the world's leading darts brand, are delighted to announce they are now the official dartboard of:

•    DPNY- Dart Players New York

•    DPLA- Dart Players Los Angeles

•    DPC- Dart Players Chicago

The darts giant has entered a 3 year agreement that will see the DPNY, DPLA and DPC

Players Championship Pro-Style Tours all played exclusively on the superior Winmau Blade 4 dartboard.

The "Dart Players" Tours are a regional, long format 501 tournament series in the United States based on the style of a European Pro Darts Tour style.

The "DP" idea was formed and founded by Anthony Eugenia in New York City with the launch of DPNY in 2011.

It subsequently expanded to Los Angeles with the creation of DPLA by L. David Irete in 2014, and this year saw Peter Citera and DPC bring long format tournaments to Chicago.

"I truly believe that the expansion of regional long format tours such as the "DP" series is a key component in the growth of the sport and the standard of play in America. We've seen the overall level of play increase in NYC. THIS WORKS"

-Anthony Eugenia (President, DPNY)

"In one season alone the DPLA PLAYERS TOUR turned good dart players into great dart players while setting a standard of professionalism never seen before in California"
 -L. David Irete (President, DPLA)

"The fact is that players in three major cities across the United States can now get professional-style exposure and experience without making a professional-style investment.  As the "Dart Players" series expands into new areas, I'm confident that we'll establish the foundation for the next generation of professional players to come through the ranks and be ready to compete - and win - on the world stage.  This partnership with Winmau really advances our cause and I thank them for their commitment.

- Peter Citera (President, DPC)

Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau, added "The "Dart Players" Tours came to our attention because of the superb work the guys have done with top level players in the USA. They are amongst the most forward-thinking organisations in the country and we are so happy that they have chosen to partner with us. We look forward to working with them to grow the sport of darts in the USA, and we hope to see many more American players follow in Jim Widmayer's steps and grace the Lakeside stage in the future."

"We look forward to promoting the Winmau brand in these three major U.S. markets and are excited at the prospect of expanding the Winmau brand and the "Dart Players" series to new U.S. markets in the coming years" -  Anthony Eugenia

To that end, Winmau and Dart Players United States (as the new umbrella organisation will be called) will present

The Presidents of the three DP Tours are excited to announce an end of the season competition that will showcase the winners of each 2015 tour with the winner receiving a $500 bonus and the title of "GRAND CHAMPION"

Past tour winners include Winmau's own Jim Widmayer, a 2x DPNY Champion (2011 and 2013), George Timpone (2012) plus reigning DPNY Champion Ryan Vander Weit and reigning DPLA Champion Dax Munna.

Mark Webster Commits his Future to Winmau

Winmau, the world's leading darts brand, are delighted to announce a new 5 year contract with Mark Webster, which cements the amazing 8 year relationship between Mark and Winmau.

Mark and Winmau began their partnership in 2007 when Mark was finding his feet on the professional tour. Rapidly after that the hugely talented left-hander's talents came to the fore as he secured the 2008 Lakeside World Championship, a week after receiving a new set of Winmau darts.

Mark said "There aren't many companies like Winmau who show faith in players through both good and bad times.  They have been there for me at every step - it's no secret that I've struggled to get consistent form over the last year but instead of ending my contract Winmau offered me a new deal and set me up with SightRight performance coach Steve Feeney. This amazing support has really helped me turn things around. I've got a long way to go but it makes all the difference knowing they are genuinely behind me and for that I'm truly grateful."

Ian Flack, Winmau's Sales and Marketing Director, said "I'll never forget seeing Mark play in the 2006 Winmau World Masters and thinking how talented he was. It's scary to think how much time has passed since then, and it's a privilege to work with Mark and have him on the team as he is one of the nicest and most professional guys you could ever wish to meet either on or off the oche."

The extremely popular and talented Welshman has been playing on the PDC Tour since 2009, where we'll see him continue to fight for top honours.

Paul Nicholson is regarded as one of the major names in darts, not just his for his undeniable talent, but also for his character and charisma.

"The Asset" is a serious contender for every major title and widely expected to add to his Players Championship triumph from 2010.

Nicholson was dubbed as the "Aussie-Geordie" by legendary commentator Sid Waddell because he was born in Newcastle and holds Australian nationality. He was the top player on the Australian Grand Prix circuit, winning title after title down-under.

Since joining the PDC, "The Asset" has consistently raised his profile with some electrifying performances and by projecting the image as the bad-boy of darts. In 2008 he caused a stir on his debut at the Grand Slam of Darts by beating Gary Anderson, who was then number one in the World Darts Federation rankings.

The following year, Nicholson continued to defy the odds with a sensational run to the quarter-finals of the World Championship. The Asset set his stall out in round one by winning every single leg to beat Adrian Gray. He then caused two big upsets by defeating world number six Adrian Lewis and Dennis Priestley, who was one of his idols in the sport, before his amazing run came to an end at the hands of world number three James Wade.

Nicholson sampled major title success for the first time in 2010 as he increased his tally of wins against higher ranked opponents to win the Players Championship. He beat Lewis in the quarter-final before claiming a sensational semi-final victory over defending champion Phil Taylor, going on to beat Mervyn King to lift the trophy. Later that year, Nicholson moved into the top 16 in the PDC rankings for the first time.

"The Asset" made the latter stages of several major tournaments in 2011 as he continued his march up the rankings. He caused shockwaves once again in the UK Open when he knocked out Premier League winner Gary Anderson, before inflicting a further defeat on 15-time world champion Taylor.

Paul has designed his precision 90% tungsten darts with only one thing in mind - top performance. With superb styling featuring Winmau's unique machined concentric rings, these darts are tuned for perfection and will be your ultimate "Asset" on the oche.

Webster and Fitton Stage 3 DARTSLIVE in FranceMark Webster and Darryl Fitton admit they are both relishing the prospect of playing the DARTSLIVE Softip Stage 3 in France this weekend, alongside Europe's star Softip players.

The World stars in the Steeltip side of the game are both embracing the rapidly growing softip side, that is dominated by the Asian, American and European countries.

World Champion Mark Webster said "The guys at Winmau asked me if I was interested in playing some softip events, so I took a look at the game and the extra dimension of strategy needed to play the game really excited. When I played in Hong Kong 3 months ago I had a great time, as the softip players and game add some great energy and electricity, and I still have so much to learn".

Darryl Fitton the Salford Star said "I've heard so much hype around the growth of softip darts across Asia so I thought that it would be great to have a go, it's going to be an intense couple of days as it's like starting out on tour all over again, and qualification for the end of season major finals in Hong Kong is essentially what we're playing for."

DARTSLIVE has several qualifying events in several countries where the top 64 ranked players gain entry to The World Finals in Hong Kong and play for 1 million Hong Kong Dollars top prize.

With so many talented softip players across Asia and Europe the UK Steeltip converts will have their work cut out, but all have said what a great feeling it is to be playing in these new events.

Glen Durrant & Claire Stainsby 9 dartGlen Durrant and Claire Stainsby made darting history at the British International Open in Brean Sands by hitting the first ever recorded mixed 9 dart 501 leg.

Glen opened up with a 177 that Claire followed with a 180 leaving Glen on 144 that he coolly took out to mass hysteria.

A perfect 9 dart 501 mixed leg has never ever been recorded in any competitive game of darts and see's both players added to the BDO Hall of Fame 9 Dart Club.

Glen said after "We'd both been playing fairly steadily, and I wasn't even thinking 9 dart until Claire nailed her last triple 20, then it was on and I could feel the hairs on my neck stand up. To finish off a 9 darter is an amazingly special moment but to do it as a team is even better".

Claire was equally stunned as she said "When Glen lined up his last 3 darts I was so nervous I could feel every dart and when he took out the 144 I was absolutely ecstatic and the moment will live with me forever".

Sue Williams Chairperson of the BDO said "Were all so happy for Glen and Claire to have made History as the first mixed pair to hit a perfect 9 darter, it was superb to see".

The BDO’s New MC “Little” Richard Ashdown Joins Winmau"Little" Richard Ashdown is riding a wave of euphoria at the moment! He still can't quite believe that he has been awarded one of the most prominent positions in the BDO, and now he has been signed by the world's leading darts brand Winmau!

Richard Ashdown is a full time darts MC/referee, spotter, statistician and event organiser. Affectionately known as "Little Richard" (due to his height), he is one of the big personalities on the professional scene.

Richard has been an MC for Winmau sponsored legend Bobby George since 2002 and he has worked alongside all of the top names in the sport (including Scott Waites, Andy Fordham, Trina Gulliver and Darryl Fitton).

Richard has vast experience as both a master of ceremonies and a referee at countless tournaments across the world. He has co-hosted the WDF World and European Cups every year since 2008, and will do so again in Canada in October 2013. Richard has also been the frontman and head referee for every England Darts Organisation event since their inauguration in 2007. He has officiated the finals of over forty BDO world ranked events over the past 9 years across England, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the USA.

Richard's new position as the BDO's master of ceremonies will see him host all its major tournaments, including the BBC televised Lakeside World Championships and the Winmau World Masters (which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year).

Renowned as one of darts top statisticians, Richard has now completed 12 years as a member of the BBC's production team at the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships, with various on screen appearances. His main role was as a 'spotter', telling the director and cameramen where the player is about to throw on the dartboard. His skills and knowhow have proved invaluable to various television and internet production teams including sports channels ESPN, ITV4, Eurosport and Setanta, along with Dutch broadcasters SBS6, RTL7 and Darts In Motion.

Richard said "The last couple of months have been like a whirlwind! I was honoured to be selected as the BDO's MC and to then be recognised by the sport's largest brand Winmau is truly unbelievable. I have always known that Winmau has the best products on the market and it is a pleasure to be able to officially voice and endorse this through a partnership with them. My first BDO event is the International Open this weekend, and I will be wearing my Winmau badge with pride!"

Ian Flack, Winmau's Sales and Marketing Director, added "We are so pleased that Richard agreed to join the Winmau team! I have known Richard for many years, and he has an impeccable reputation in the darts fraternity for his professionalism and friendly personality. BDO - 40th AnniversaryBDO - 40th AnniversaryFor Winmau and the British Darts Organisation (BDO) life certainly begins at 40! 2013 is the 40th anniversary year of the BDO, and Winmau have been proud supporters of the BDO since its inception in 1973.

2013 also marks the 40th anniversary year of the Winmau World Masters in October, and Winmau and the BDO wanted to celebrate these amazing milestones with a bang!

Winmau have produced a unique version of their Blade 4 dartboard to celebrate the BDO's 40 years at the forefront of the sport. This was presented to Sue Williams, Chairperson of the BDO, by Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau, on the hallowed Lakeside stage.

Winmau and the BDO also announced a new initiative during Lakeside 2013 - the launch of the Winmau 9 Dart Club, with membership restricted to BDO players who hit the magic 9 Dart 501 in BDO and WDF majors and opens.

To mark this new initiative, Winmau have produced a commemorative set of darts for two players who have achieved the impressive feat in tournaments sponsored by the darts giant. The first was presented to John Walton, who recorded the first and only 9 dart 501 in the Winmau World Masters in 2007, and his darts were presented to him at the player's luncheon at Lakeside 2013.

More recently Christian Pratt hit a 9 darter in the 2012 BDO Winmau British Classic and, like John, will receive a unique set of Winmau laser-etched tungsten darts in a laser-etched aluminium presentation case as a permanent keepsake.

"Winmau wanted to produce something special to add to the celebrations for the BDO's 40th anniversary year" says Ian Flack, "and what could be better than a personalised Blade board and the launch of a new exclusive 9 Dart Club with a commemorative set of darts in a presentation case (both uniquely laser-etched with the exclusive 9 Dart Club logo and player's name). Our relationship with the BDO has spanned four decades and we can't thank them enough for all they have done, and continue to do, for our sport."

Sue Williams commented: "We are proud of our long and valued relationship with Winmau, and it is fitting that the BDO's 40th Anniversary Year also marks the same anniversary for the Winmau World Masters, the oldest established major on the BDO calendar. The BDO and Winmau represents the greatest 'double' in the history of world darts and we are delighted to be celebrating together throughout 2013."

Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau said: "We are honoured to partner with Wheelchair Darts, and we look forward to working with them to raise awareness of darts for disabled people in the future. Scott Waites cruised to his first BDO World Darts Championship title with a 7-1 win over Tony 'The Silverback' O'Shea.

The 35-year-old Yorkshire man dominated the Lakeside Final from the outset, as he raced into a 5-0 lead before O'Shea took his first set to trail 5-1 at the break.

However, Scott was in no mood to relinquish the title and classily took out 110 with a double 16 to seal victory and his first ever Lakeside World Championship Title.

Undoubtedly Scott was the best player throughout the week and speaking to BBC Sport's Colin Murray after the match, newly crowned Champion Waites said: "All I tried to do was battle my way to a few sets in front. It was so hot up there, and very difficult to hold my darts. The crowd have been fantastic all week and I'm going to enjoy this, and lap it up as I've got a day off work tomorrow."

Congratulations to Scott from all of us at Winmau on your first Lakeside World Championship Title.

Christian Kist, the current Lakeside World Champion and Dutch superstar, has signed a 3 year deal with Winmau, as he prepares to defend his World title.

The talented Dutchman burst to fame in 2012 by blitzing his way through a very experienced Lakeside line-up to claim the ultimate prize in the sport. He is currently performing superbly in the Grand Slam of Darts having won his first 2 games (beating fellow countryman Raymond van Barneveld in the process in what he described as "a dream for me").

A thoughtful and patient man, Christian has taken several months to decide which darts company he would like to join and he said: "I was so happy to win my first major title in darts that signing a darts contract was not something I wanted to rush into. However, after speaking with Winmau and having used their products for my whole darts life it is amazing to sign with the company I see as head and shoulders above all others".

Simon Hall, Head of Marketing for Winmau, said "Christian flew right under the radar into the Lakeside last year and caught everyone off guard. It's a compliment to the real strength of the BDO and WDF system that such an amazing player can come through the ranks and triumph on the biggest stage of them all. We are really excited about developing his darts range and watching his career grow in the long-term".

Christian's darts will be available from all good stockists in the Spring.

Peter Manley (known as “One Dart” due to his unerring accuracy on the doubles) has signed a 3 year agreement with the world’s leading darts brand, Winmau.

With over 16 major wins worldwide, and countless television appearances, Peter is one of the most recognisable darts players ever to have toed the oche. He fell out of the top 16 for the first time in 10 years in 2009, which was largely a result of his recovery from a heart problem. Peter is now back to full health and he is determined to prove himself once again on the PDC circuit and he is keen to regain his tour card in 2013.

Simon Hall, Head of Marketing for Winmau, said: "Peter has exceptional stature in darts both as a player and as Chairman of the PDPA, where he plays a leading role in player representation and in forging the sports global appeal. Peter’s popularity is demonstrated by his huge fan base and busy exhibition schedule. He has all the qualities required to continue his impressive career on the oche and to claim more major titles in the future."

Hall added that Winmau will shortly be launching a new “One Dart” range, with match weighed replica darts, that will be sold via Winmau’s worldwide distribution channels.

Peter said: "Winmau have shown great faith in me as a player and personality in darts, and I'm really happy to be joining them. Their reputation for product quality goes without saying, and I'm going to relish promoting them as much as I can both on and off the oche".

One thing is for sure – Peter Manley has already made an indelible mark on the sport, and his opponents can be sure that he will be hungry for many future successes!

Since the first bristle dartboard was manufactured in 1932, not much changed until 1997 when Winmau launched the first ever Blade dartboard.

Within a year, the Winmau Blade had taken the global market by storm. The Blade dartboard wiring system had become smaller and all staples were removed from the surface making it the most technically advanced dartboard in the world. It had no rivals as the ultimate low bounce out dartboard, and players immediately benefitted from dramatically improved averages.

Winmau’s commitment towards continually improving and innovating saw the introduction of the ultimate Blade board in 2010 – the Blade 4.

The Winmau Blade 4 pools all of Winmau’s 65 years expertise and utilises a pioneering new wiring system that dramatically reduces bounce outs and provides the opportunity for maximum scoring potential. The DSW (Dynamic Sector Wire) is over 50% thinner to even further enhance player averages and to provide best-in-class performance. The unique wiring system is constructed from a hi-tech, ultra strong material that is designed to deflect darts into the target area. The advanced molecular structure of the high tensile steel facilitates total accuracy right across the whole playing surface, whilst lasting even longer.

2012 is the 15th anniversary of the first ever Blade dartboard, and the company is selling more Blade boards than ever before.

Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, are delighted to announce the signing of Scotty "2 Hotty” Waites. Scott is without doubt one of the best dart players in the world today, and already has two major titles to his name - the 2010 PDC Grand Slam of Darts and the 2011 BDO Winmau Word Masters.

The deal comes after a very successful decade of darts from Scott, with his growth into a high-profile player and an ever-present BBC and ESPN star at the Lakeside World Championships.

Scott is a proud Yorkshire and Englishman and has represented both country and county for over 10 years. Scott’s greatest achievement was winning the 2011 Winmau World Masters, a title he'd been desperate to win after competing in the event for many years (as its notoriously one of the hardest tournaments to win).

"This is very exciting for us," said Simon Hall, Head of Marketing for Winmau. "Scott is rapidly becoming one of the most feared dart players on the circuit today. His grit and determination will no doubt take him to the top of the game with more major titles to follow. We are developing a range of Scott's darts, which will be available throughout our global distribution channels over the coming months."

Scott added: "I am delighted to be joining Winmau, as I have played on Blade dartboards for my entire playing career and everyone on tour knows what a reputable and quality company they are".

Maciej Chorbinski from Poland is the proud winner of the Ted Hankey shirt competition. Maciej is a huge Ted fan and was overwhelmed that his design was chosen by "The Count" himself.

The winning design is pictured here and will be worn by Ted in a televised tournament in the near future.

Ted said: "I was genuinely touched and impressed by the sheer amount of designs that were sent in and I had a great time reviewing every one before choosing the winner. Maciej's artwork captured everything I was looking for, and it will perfectly compliment my current wardrobe!".

Maciej will receive a signed set of Ted Hankey darts, a Blade 4 dartboard, a Ted Hankey Coffin Darts Case and 2 tickets to the final of the 2012 Winmau World Masters. As an extra special thank you, Ted has agreed to produce one extra shirt that will be sent to Maciej in recognition of his great concept.

Trina Gulliver won award

Winmau's Trina Gulliver was presented with an award from England Manager, Peter Melton at the 2012 BDO British Internationals for creating darts history by becoming the first female player to win 50 International Caps for representing England.

This is an incredible achievement, especially when you consider that it has only been in the past few seasons that the Ladies have had the opportunity to gain more caps in the Six Nations. The majority of Trina's matches have been awarded in the BDO British Internationals.

Whilst everyone in darts is aware of her incredible personal records, it is sometimes forgotten that she has such a fantastic record at International level. Including her matches in the 2012 BDO British Internationals, she has won 43 of her 51 matches for England.

When you add this to her awards at Europe Cup and World Cup level, she really has set the bar at a height that will be hard to beat in the future. However, knowing Trina she will want this to inspire other lady players now and in the years ahead.

She is a wonderful ambassador for women's darts and it without doubt a leader on and off the oche. She is a great Captain for England Ladies, supporting every single player who pulls on an England shirt.

As a nine times Lakeside Women's World Professional Champion and a five times Winmau World Masters Women's Champion, Trina has been setting records for many years and it is very fitting that she now becomes the first female player to achieve this outstanding achievement.

Undoubtedly, there are many more caps and records to come in the future.

Bobby George

Winmau, the world's leading darts brand, are delighted to announce the signing of Bobby "The King of Bling" George. Bobby is without doubt the most colourful, charismatic and entertaining player in the history of darts and he didn't even pick up a dart until he was 30 years of age!

The deal comes after a hugely successful and high-profile career for Bobby totalling over 35 years as both a player and an ever-present BBC commentator at the Lakeside World Championships (since 1999). Bobby is twice a Lakeside (Embassy) World Championship finalist and he is a World Darts Federation Europe Cup Winner, but his greatest achievement was winning the News of the World Championship in 1979. This was one of the hardest tournaments to win and Bobby did it in typical style - he is the only player to have won this prestigious title without dropping a single leg! He won the News of the World for the second time in 1986, and Bobby has proudly represented his country 26 times.

Bobby is a family man and a keen fisherman. He combines these 2 loves at his 18 bedroom mansion George Hall - he lives with his wife Marie and his 2 sons Robert and Richie (the latter being a great up and coming dart player in his own right) and also has 3 fishing lakes on his property!

"This is very exciting for us," said Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau. "Bobby is one of the most famous and instantly recognisable darts players of all time. His unique style and image is known amongst dart players and non-dart players alike, and he resonates with people from all walks of life. We are developing a range of Bobby George darts equipment, which will be available throughout our global distribution channels."

Bobby added: "I am delighted to be re-joining Winmau. I was very much involved with the company many moons ago and it feels like I've come home! I have always championed their reputation as the finest quality darts manufacturer in the world and I have always used Winmau dartboards. In fact, I helped to develop the original Blade board that was launched back in 1997."

Bobby writes the ever popular Bobby's Blog in Darts World Magazine, he is the Marketing Advisor to the England Darts Organisation and he has his own website at:

Sean and Winmau began their partnership in 2011 when Winmau's US distributor Dutchman Darts highlighted his talent. Sean started using the Winmau Testament dart and, it had such a profound impact on his game, that he even adopted it as his nickname, tattooed it on his arm and produced a darts shirt bearing the iconic graphics!

Sean has played darts for the last 21 years and is currently the 2010/2011 Massachusetts Minuteman Dart League Cricket Champion as well as the runner up in 501 Men's Singles. The Winmau Essex Open Championship 2012 will take place at Colchester United Football Club on the 26th of February 2012 and will be played exclusively on the Blade 4 dartboard.

The Essex Open always receives a huge number of entrants, as it carries a good prize fund, is BDO ranked and is promoted in partnership with Colchester United F.C. at The Weston Homes Community Stadium (which is one of the UK's most modern darts venues). The 2011 event did not disappoint as, after eight hours of darts involving over 300 players, the tournament ended up being decided on one leg of darts, and was won by England International Steve Douglas.

The men and women go head-to-head in a best of 5 legs 501, straight start and double finish. The youth event was contested by over 70 players last year and the format this year will be the best of 3 legs 501, straight start, double finish. The tournament carries a very special bonus - the winners will qualify to represent the county in the 2012 Winmau World Masters and the Lakeside World Championships Qualifiers.

Winmau and its retail partner Powerdarts are delighted to announce the signing of Lincolnshire County's Craig Barratt.

Craig is one of the rising young stars on the County circuit and has only been playing darts for 4 years. His short career has already seen him crowned Nottinghamshire Open Champion 2011 and he had an impressive run in the 2011 Winmau World Masters reaching the last 64.

Winmau was made aware of Craig's talent by Lee Dovey of Powerdarts, and Lee felt that Craig would benefit greatly from a partnership with the world's leading darts brand. Having studied Craig's recent form, his incredibly committed attitude and his huge potential for the future, Winmau were only too pleased to put pen to paper!

SIMON WHITLOCK has withdrawn from the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts following an operation on a broken bone in his ankle.

The Australian was injured when he slipped last weekend during the Spanish Darts Trophy Players Championships in Benidorm.

Having initially withdrawn from Sunday's event in Spain, further tests revealed a broken bone in the joint which required minor surgery.

Whitlock, a two-time Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist, has now pulled out of the nine-day tournament in Wolverhampton, which begins on Saturday November 12.

"I'm extremely disappointed to be missing Wolverhampton, but I'll be watching with the fans" said Whitlock, the 2010 World Championship runner-up.

Trina Gulliver, the greatest female darts player of all time, has signed a new contract with the world's leading darts brand Winmau. Trina will continue to represent the Winmau brand until 2015 and both parties are delighted to reaffirm their commitment to a partnership that, for the last thirteen years, has seen Trina lift nine World Championship titles, five Winmau World Masters crowns and countless other major honours. This unparalleled list of achievements ranks Trina as one of the greatest names in the history of darts.

The last 13 years has seen Trina lead a revolution in ladies darts, and her partnership with Winmau has been an enormous plus for the ladies game. Her profile and her drive to succeed, year after year, has been a key reason for the resurgence in the women's game. During The Golden Girl's tenure at the top of the game, the prize money and the interest in women's darts has increased dramatically; benefiting not just herself but the entire sport.

In Golden Girl: The Autobiography of the Greatest Ever Ladies Darts Player there are vivid tales of how Trina threw her first darts standing on a stool in her parents pub as a two year old. Her dedication to tungsten clearly started early, but it was an interest in other metals, and indeed wood, that saw Trina devote herself to a life of woodwork and joinery.

In her teens she constructed greenhouses and chairs from plywood before gaining work experience at a building firm. Trina showed the dogged determination in this role that she displays in every aspect of her life. After three years of woodwork classes she qualified as a carpenter/joiner and, in typical Trina fashion, she was fighting the odds - she became a carpenter despite being allergic to certain types of wood! Despite her love of carpentry, Trina was destined for a life of competition - she played football, sprinting, netball and javelin to county level.

Playing darts in the early days was never easy. The Golden Girl would work 12 hour shifts as a carpenter and still find time to dedicate to her darts passion. By 1988 she was one of the best ladies darts players around. She played county darts for Warwickshire and was capped by England in 1994. However, this was not a sufficient challenge for Trina; she entered the Super League darts against male opponents and won her first four matches. It wasn't her only success against the opposite sex - she came 12th out of 20 male players in the 2001 Pentathlon. She was well on her way to conquering the game.

Since the inception of the Lakeside Women's World Championship in 2001, Trina has reached every final; an achievement unparalleled in darts. Indeed she has only lost the final on two occasions. Trina's achievements were recognised in 2003 when she was named as the BBC Midlands Sports Personality of the Year.

Trina said "Winmau have been the most loyal, supportive and understanding company to work with. It is true to say that, without their help over the years, I wouldn't have achieved so much both on and off the oche. They make me feel so welcome as part of the team and the quality of their darts equipment has undoubtedly been a big boost to my career".

Winmau has supported Trina for 13 years and she is a personal friend of all that work for the darts giant. Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director, said: "This new extension to our partnership with Trina will yield even more success for the greatest ever ladies darts player. Trina is an icon in the sport of darts; her phenomenal achievements are a testament to that. But there is one worrying thing for her opponents: With this new agreement and her unwavering focus, Trina Gulliver's best days are still ahead of her!".

Scotty "2 Hotty" Waites claimed his second Major title in an all Yorkshire Winmau world Masters final, when he beat Dean Winstanley by 7 - 2. Yorkshires best ranked darts players, Scott Waites (No.4 Seed) and Dean Winstanley (No.2 Seed) were perfect opponents for the event that was held in Yorkshire.

The in-form Waites produced a 180 in the opening leg to make his intentions clear as he won the first set by 2-0 in legs, and then followed up with the second set. Dean took the next to make it 2-1 as both players produced excellent scoring. Scott then took the next to take him into the break at a commanding 3-1 in sets. After the break Scott took the opening set with the aid of yet another 180. And then a 61 checkout for the next and a commanding 4-1 lead. Dean hit a 180 in the deciding leg of the 6th set, and Scott did the same, but Dean was back in business with a 140 checkout to make it 4-2, before Scott came back to make it 5-2 and just two away from victory and even closer when he went 6-2 up at the second break.

Scott opened with back to back 180's in the first leg after the break to be on another possible 9-darter, sadly it didn't happen but he won the leg and then opened the next with yet another 180 and then finished in style with a magnificent 161 checkout to become 2011 Winmau World Masters Champion, and fittingly so because he was the in-form player throughout the whole tournament and a truly deserved 2011 Winmau Masters Champion.

Scott took the Masters to a breathtaking level of high scoring and big checkouts.

He scored six 180's and his checkouts were 102, 138 and 161 to win the title.

His single dart average in the final was 33.54 and Dean's was a very respectable 31.95.

Winmau are delighted to announce the signing of one of the biggest names in darts - Dean "Over The Top" Winstanley. Dean, current World Darts Federation number 1 ranked player and recent Winmau British Classic Winner, will work closely with Winmau's engineers to create his new set of signature darts.

The in-form Yorkshire based star will make his debut as a Winmau player at the ESPN televised Winmau World Masters in September. Dean had a tremendous run in last year's event reaching the quarter-finals and, on the back of a superb 12 months on the circuit, he is ranked the number 2 seed for the 2011 Masters.

Simon Hall, Head of Marketing for Winmau, was delighted to have Dean on board. He said : "Dean is easily one of the best players in the game at the moment, and it is a real honour to have a player of his drive and determination represent our company".

Dean joins Winmau's illustrious team of darts superstars and said "I am really happy to have signed with Winmau, as I've played on Winmau dartboards for over 15 years and they are the best on the market. The Winmau World Masters is one of my favourite events and I'd love nothing more than to win the tournament as a Winmau sponsored player. Hopefully I can then follow that up with my first Lakeside world title after my final appearance this year!".

Dean will be working alongside Winmau's Research and Development Department to create his own signature range of match weighed darts that will feature Winmau's class leading technology in tungsten production.

The show was watched by around 17 million viewers in its primetime Sunday slot and remains part of many people's childhood history. Repeats of Bullseye are currently aired on the Challenge Channel, part of the Sky platform.

The host and comedian for the tour will be Neil Wheatley.
